PPSC chief summoned in plea for exam delay (Lecturer Exams)

LAHORE, Sept 19: The Lahore High Court on Monday issued a notice to the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) chairman on a petition seeking a delay of examination for the posts of lecturers and relaxation in the upper age limit for private aspirants.

Mobeen Umar, a candidate, contended through her counsel that the PPSC advertised the posts and invited applications by Sept 12, 2011. She said the upper age limit was restricted to 33 years in the advertisement.

She said the PPSC chairman announced Sept 23 for written examination which, she said, was very unfair as only 10 days had been given to candidates for preparation.

She said she also applied for the post of English lecturer and her age exceeded 33 years.

The petitioner stated that the Services & General Administration secretary was authorized to grant relaxation in the age limit under the Punjab Delegation of Power (relaxation of age) Rules 1961 but he did not exercise his powers.

She referred to a recent decision by a LHC single bench wherein the PPSC advertisement was cancelled on the ground of not granting relaxation in the upper age limit.

The petitioner, therefore, prayed to the court to postpone the examination and order the PPSC to grant age relaxation to non-government candidates.

After hearing arguments, Justice Umar Ata Bandial issued a notice to the respondent for Sept 21.
